Alexa-gimmicks

Johannes Beus
Even though (rightfully) criticized by many, Alexa is the only public and free data-source that offers traffic-data for the whole Internet. Over time, some developers have taken these data and added them into applications that are interesting in parts. Here are the top3 from my bookmarks.

Alexaholic
The display and comparison of a maximum of two sites is also possible with Alexa but Alexaholic offers a few extra functions like the comparison of five sites, smoothing of data and quick switching between different time frames and filetypes.

Alexaradar
Alexaradar splits the Data by country and displays the top-sites for the respective country in an orderly manner. This is interesting to see which sites are “in” at the moment which gains visitors and sites loose visitors.

Alexadex
Alexadex is a stock-market simulation based on the Alexadata. The value of a site is calculated by the number of visitors and through skillful purchases and sales of stocks you can develop a sense for the traffic-flow of the Internet. As an added bonus, this can also be quite fun to play.
