Virtual Earth 3D

While still in beta at the moment, it seems that with Virtual Earth 3D, Microsoft has developed a serious competitor to Google Earth. Similar to Google Earth they are showing areal-views of the whole world. A special feature in Virtual Earth 3D is the 3D view for large cities. Google also offers this – Microsoft has a nicer portrayal which includes pictures of the exterior walls though. Additionally, Microsoft does not split the data like Google does with Earth and Maps but offers a central contact point with Live Maps. It is unpleasant that many features can only be used with the Internet Explorer.
