I cleaned up my bookmarks and found these three well done linkbaits. Maybe this will be inspiring for a few:
Web2.0-Logo-Generator
This is a nice example of software by and for Nerds. I am sure that the Web2.0-Logo-Generator was not intended to be a linkbait but was planned to be a rather small technical gimmick that wanted to lampoon the quirks of the current Web2.0-Logos. In the end it yielded 30.000 links. Very international, many from well linked blogs and some even from authorities.
Web2.0-Awards
Awards and contests are always good. Especially because the participating sites will refer to the Awards to gain an advantage on the competition. Webmasters who are nominated for some obscure award will link to about everything. In this case it yielded 65.000 links – and that with a relatively small effort.
How Much Is My Blog Worth?
I like this linkbait very much. It play with the fact that bloggers – even though they will say differently – would like to be rewarded for their troubles, or at least have someone tell them that they are actually the crown jewels of the Internet. The tool will calculate a fictive amount from some criteria. This one was linked like wildfire by blogs and has therefore more than 400.000 backlinks.
