This here is a problem for which I can not get any progress: The official Google-Toolbar “freezes” Firefox on a few of our Windows-systems. This will usually happen if a new tab is opened or when a form is send. Firefox will stop responding and needs to be shut down via Taskmanager. Once the browser is restarted it will run for a while until the whole spiel starts anew. The problem can be isolated to the Google-Toolbar – all other extensions are removed and without the toolbar, Firefox will go on for days on end. All PCs run Windows XP SP2 with all current updates. It is interesting that this bug only shows up on dualcore-systems – the older singlecore-PCs run Firefox without a problem.
Does anyone have an idea what causes this and what I can do now? Replacing the Google-Toolbar is one approach that I am taking at the moment but still, my scientific curiosity is roused.
[Update 12.20.2006] The current update to Firefox 2.0.1 and the Google-Toolbar 3 seem to have gotten rid of the problem.
