Microsoft loses further marketsharesJohannes Beus
The Nielsen//NetRatings-Zahlen for the US-marketplace for December 2006 show that Microsoft keeps on losing massive amounts of marketshare. With only 8,4 percent of all searchqueries, MSN/Live is ranked slightly above AOL, who does not have its own index but is just using Google-data. While all other searchengines were able to increase the number of queries over the year by up to double-digits, Microsoft has to live with about 10% less searchqueries. The predictions that Microsoft will be able to profit from the integration of the new Internet-Explorer 7.0 have therefore – at least until now – not yet come to pass. Additionally to this, they should not place their hopes on Vista either. Microsoft has to finally get rid of the quality problems in the index, which are massive in part. While a gimmick like “Ms. Dewey”, a flash-implementation of the Live-search, may be nice, they are ultimately still unable to belie the fact that there is something wrong with the quality of the SERPs.[off topic] Andreas needs some participants for a short questionnaire for his diploma thesis which is concerned with the subject of SEO. The questionnaire is about how important and complicated different rankingfactors are being assessed. I am interested to see what his results will be.
