.plan reloaded

Johannes Beus
At the moment, Twitter is making the rounds through my Bloglines. For those who have not heard of it yet: Twitter is a “service” in which users can post what they are doing at the moment. In a way a status message but with lots of pastel-colors, color gradients and additional Web2.0-characteristics.

After I realized that there were really no more ideas behind this than the status-message, I felt relegated to the console-times. Back then the home directory included the files .plan and .projects and everyone who wished, and who had the necessary permission, could query them with the “finger” tool:

s09:~# finger beus

04.05.2007 Abakus PubCon Hannover

It seems that, at the moment, a lot of old tools are being converted for the Web2.0: with Pipes, Yahoo has advanced the Unix-Pipes principle and something like “talk” is already available in many versions. I am keen to see what will be “invented” next ...
