Google giveth and Google taketh away

Johannes Beus
Searchengine-diva Google has come up with something new to drive webmasters into despair. While the past held monthly PageRank-updates accompanied by the, by now, already famous Google-Dance, now Google seems to like to deprive sites of her affection which leads her to drastically minimize visits from the Googleindex during that time. Gerald and his SEO-blog are suffering from this, but also larger portals, like the not-so-insignificant German price-comparison- and oppinionportal, which is shown by the Alexa-traffic-graph to the right, are affected. At the moment we can only speculate about the possible causes. Themes like (internal) duplicate content, inclusion of user-behavior but also the possibly unfavorable planetary constellations in Mountain View are mentioned quite often, even though sadly there are no solid explanations. For Gerald this demeanor might just be annoying – for projects that are unavoidably dependent on the Google-visitors and for which, should the stream of traffic run dry, there are complete existences in jeopardy, the webmasters can be assured of a life between Champagne and anti-depressives. There is no question that Google still hold sovereignty over their index, but a little less uptight behavior would go a long way in improving their relationship with webmasters.
