Supplemental-results without labeling

Johannes Beus
Google has – after Cutts insinuations – now officially announced to stop labeling the results from the supplemental index as such. To justify this they are explaining that the the differences between the “first” as well as the supplemental index are decreasing. On the one hand I can understand it well that Google is now also deleting these labels after they have already removed queries that identified sites to be in the supplemental-index: Google's goal – at least in theory – is to present those searching with the best possible searchresults. Regardless of which technology is behind it; at the same time they are trying to keep the user interface as simple as possible. This query, on the other hand, as well as the labeling of the results was an extremely efficient instrument for webmasters to discover possible problems of a site and these queries propably where one one of the few that mostly helped the “good”, white-head-SEOs. All the bickering does not help though, Google makes the rules – all we can do is hope that, in the future, Google will create the possibility of having similar functions available through the webmaster-console.

PS: SEO.Fm has just come up with the idea that the current silly-season is perfect for a linkbait in SEO-blogs. Here you can vote for SEO-blogs, postings and other stuff. I hope all of you know where to click!
