For Sale: SEO-Snakeoil – $ 3,99

Snakeoil is a label that is usually given to products that have no function at all but which are attributed with many wondrous effects. Initially from the wild west, where miracle healers would sell this snakeoil as a remedy for any ailment to trusting simpletons, it seems to have found its way into the area of searchengineoptimization. Be it Ebay-auctions which offer PageRank-7 and 8-links for 10 Euro, obscure “doorwaypage-generators” which are hyped to generate myriads of visitors, without you having to do any work or SEO-firms from Hesse that talk their customers into long-term contracts, which lack any real usefulness, over the phone – the consumers greed is often more prominent than their wits.

This matter is actually rather simple: on the one hand you can be sure that nobody has anything to give away for free and on the other hand there is the fact that SEO is not a secret science. So if you get someone who comes around and offers their products noticeably below the average marketprice, promises to do miracles with his “SEO-secrets” or, at best, combines both of these offers, you should be extremely careful. Searchengineoptimization is, in large parts, a solid craft paired with a small part of the correct “intuition” but there are no shortcuts to reaching the goal: before the algorithm all websites are equal. I will strongly advise you to think carefully about the advantages your affiliate is trying to achieve before deciding on any such “bargain”. So much for this weeks exhortation.
