Hostnames on Google News

Johannes Beus
The normal Googleindex is not the only thing thats interesting, with the constant expansion of Google's Universal Search we should not lose sight of all of the vertical searches. One of the oldest and most visited vertical search of Google is the news search “Google News”. I continuously saved the sources for Google News for the last few month – here we have the 20 most common hostnames in a purely absolute quantity:

It is remarkable to note the gap between Welt.de and the other sources here – when we take a look at the Alexanumbers of the site we can probably make out pretty accurately when improvements were made to the site. When we weigh in the place of the news on the Google-News-homepage and its time into the analysis, the advantage becomes even more distinct. It may, depending on the orientation of the website, therefore be quite interesting to think outside the usual “SERPs-Box” and pursue new directions. All in all I was able to count 840 distinct newssources.
