What the “Befreiphone” reveals about SEO

Iphones have a tough life. Eccentric owners, ignorant manufacturers and pink magenta colored cell networks. To give at least a fraction of the German Iphone-population a taste of the limitless freedom between the celltowers, Macnotes is giving away a gadget without network bonds to the owner of the website that, next Wednesday night, holds the number one spot on Google for the keyword “befreiphone”.

While these SEO-competitions are usually only moderately exciting (those who know how to do it do not participate because they do not wish to present their techniques and sources so openly and from the ones that are participating you do not wish to learn) this time it is different. Thanks to the surprisingly great number of participants and the extremely short timespan that this competition has, there will be something to be learned this time. Classical linkbuilding is not really possible which means that other criteria will decided on who wins. Thanks to different strategies (Udo Vetter promises money, a forum gathers links and will raffle the thing to its users, other are – traditionally – making a fool of themselves in hopes they get links out of pity) a lot can be observed and learned. To keep track I have put up a monitoring for this keyword that is frequently updated.
