IndexWatch 09/2008

Thanks to the weather on this first of October there is not much else to do other than put together some data. I therefore present to you, just as last month, the winners and losers in the Googleindex for the month of September:

Ltur.de has taken over some nice positions from Ltur.com. The interesting thing here is that the De-domain is using a 302 redirect to the .com which led them to “hijack” Ltur.com's position for a few, strong keywords. Those who engage in SEO for a while will remember that those 302-hijackings were a large problem for a time, albeit Google's assertions that they have this matter under control now. The positions for keywords like “Urlaub”(travel), “Pauschalreisen”(all-inclusive travel) or “Last Minute” beg to differ at the moment. Apart from this we have many domains, which saw heavy losses last month or the month prior, who arrived back at their former level.

What Ltur.de won, Ltur.com naturally had to lose – while the total is not affected. A whole other story is the second travel industry loser: tui.com managed to produce a relaunch that is based nearly exclusively on frames/javascript, which consequently keeps out searchengines altogether. We can see this nicely in that there were about 30.000 indexed pages for the domain at the beginning of September while at the moment there are only about 10.000 pages left and I am confident that even that number will dwindle. This also led to the loss of placement for a few nice keywords in the travel sector: Fernreise (long distance travel), All Inclusive as well as other terms where Tui.com could still be found in the Top5 at the beginning of the Month, are now directing their visitors to other domains.
