IndexWatch 10/2008Johannes Beus
October has ended and here are the IndexWatch-numbers for last Month. As in the Months before I compile a list from my data for sites whose visibility in the Googleindex has strongly risen or fallen within the last month. Seeing that our toolbox is online now, there is a link to the details-page for the particular domain behind each entry.Winners
Ferium had slipped strongly at the end of July, but it seems that they are back in the SERPs with close to exactly their old rankings – this should make them happy so close to Christmas and should cater to the hope of some stability. The visibility-index for Gmx.de and Gmx.net shows nicely how Google is designating content sometimes to one, then to the other domain and is therefore showing a progression that is typical for this kind of mistake. Lets see if and when Gmx will get a hold on this. Suite101.de will surly not be happy being called this, but in the end they are still some kind of article-directory. More than 8.000 articles seem to have already found their way in and the number is continually rising. What is interesting in this context is that they are strongly advocating the use of subdomains: currently I can see 981 hostnames of the domain. I am not really convinced by this project but here it does seem to be working well. Losers
On the losing side it is interesting to note that especially domains that are primarily non-German have strongly lost out: truevo.com, ebay.nl, openphrases.com, amazon.com and freepatentsonline.com. I would wager that Google has tweaked the limits some which led these domains to fall out of the index. The price-comparision spardeingeld.de has been hit especially hard. A few month ago they were still online under the Shopzilla/Bizrate domain, now they have converted to the new domain, out of unfathomable reasons as far as I am concerned, which led them to crash three weeks ago after they actually put up a successful move.
