ChromeOS – Google is developing its own operating system

For a long time, people have speculated this would happen, now it is official: Google is working on its own operating-system. Going by the name ChromeOS, based on the searchengines' browser, they are planning to develop an OpenSource operating-system, whose main focus is the Internet. They are looking to produce the perfect platform to connect to the Internet with, so speed, simplicity and security are to be the core of the developmental effort. While they are already planning to release the code this year, it will probably take until the third quarter of 2010 before we will see the first netbooks that run on ChromeOS.

As far as I am concerned, this is, on the one hand, a logical advancement in their Chrome strategy and on the other hand, also certainly a distinct attack against Microsoft. Where, at the moment, they are running into the problem of providing an adequate software-platform for netbooks and similar devices, which Google noticed and is now taking advantage of. It will be exciting to see, which (hardware)-partners they are going to cooperate with, which will make ChromeOS the default operating-system for those vendor's systems.

Hi Johannes,

I will be glad to try the new ChromeOS and hope it will better fit my many programs that are only to use under windows system.

Because my MacOS is Ok, but i use many programs working only under the windows system and so i habe both systems and switch.
would be great to need only one system.
