IndexWatch 07/2009

A little later than usual but still filled to the brim with the most recent data, here we have the IndexWatch-Overview for last month. Like always, we evaluated more than one million keywords from the German Googleindex to find last months winners and losers. We start on the winning side:

Winners
#DomainChange
1buycentral.de+1.000%Domaininfo
2alleangebote.com+1.000%Domaininfo
3geolino.de+1.000%Domaininfo
4wlw.com+1.000%Domaininfo
5statista.com+1.000%Domaininfo
6veturo.com+828%Domaininfo
7magistrix.de+380%Domaininfo
8stern-tours.de+342%Domaininfo
9tamundo.de+334%Domaininfo
10gamona.de+280%Domaininfo
11belocal.de+256%Domaininfo
12wiley.com+240%Domaininfo
13bab.la+239%Domaininfo
14mitula.de+224%Domaininfo
15oekoportal.de+184%Domaininfo

Like many times before, the top-positions are taken by some domains that just got relased from a Google-penalty and started to rank (somewhat) properly again. As far as Buycentral.de is concerned, it is quite interesting to see how they might be back in the index but that their visibility is only about half of its original value. Statista is an impressive example for the speed with which some SEO-measures can spring to fruition (here we have the Visibilityindex) – taking a first look at the backlinks also shows them to have grown organically, which is not much of a surprise due to the interesting content. Now we move on to last months losers:

It looks like, once upon a time, Webspace.de was offering free webspace, hosting pictures and doing other such things but now seems to have closed its doors. Thanks to this, we have a great example of how Google reacts to something like this: the Visibilityindex dropped sharply, the PageRank fell from PR5 to PR0 and even the number of indexed pages went down noticeably (from 500.000 a few month ago to less than 5.000 at the moment). We can conclude: yes, a site may be offline for a few times but it should not be for too long because otherwise there will be problems with Google.

The decline of Premiere.de should not come as much of a surprise, seeing how they are continuing at sky.de. Here we have a great example of how clean a domain-migration can be. The last few keywords that are still missing will probably “move in” within the next few weeks.
