IndexWatch 08/2009Johannes Beus
This month is nearly over and the IndexWatch-Numbers are already available, so let us start. As usual, we begin with last month's Google-SERP-winners, for which we also include the difference in visibility (in percent) from the month before.Winners
Just as in the months prior, Lotto.de is busy exchanging rankings with lotto-toto.de – one month Google favors the one domain, the next they favor the other. On the one hand, this is a nice example of how Google is usually pretty good at handling duplicate-content that comes from two completely identical domains, though this roller-coaster ride could probably be solved in a different way by deciding on one domain for the long-run (Visibilityindex). Indeed.de, publishr.de and wunderweib.de put in exceptional premieres in this months SERPs – it seems that, in these cases, there was already enough linkpower available through subsidiaries or parent companies to pull off such a strong start. I am especially interested in how Indeed.de will keep on developing, seeing as SERPs in SERPs are not something that Google tolerates when it is done the way it is here (Visibilityindex). While Sportschau.de took on all of sport.ard.de's content, it is interesting to note, that it took a few weeks before Google transferred all of the rankings. Here, I suspect, that the (in this case) unfortunate HTTP-Code “302” is at fault for this and i leave it up to everybody, to envision themselves how something like this would affect a domain that is not that strong as this one (Visibilityindex). Losers
This month, Venere decided to switch from the .de-domain over to .com. We can only speculate on the reasons for this – especially because it has only been a year since they switched from the .com to the .de-domain. We should keep in mind, that even though, at the moment, 301-redirects will still transfer all, or at least most of the linkjuice, there is no guarantee that this will be the case forever (Visibilityindex) … It seems that by now, Arcor has been completely integrated into Vodafone, as the domain is being redirected. From a SEO-point-of-view, the implementation was rather unfortunate, seeing how all those former rankings for “Arcor” as well as combinations for generic searchqueries such as “dsl flat” or “digital tv” are lost that way. The Vanityfair-website has been reduced to a minimum since the online-presence has been discontinued – in this case, Google handled the many respectable rankings for a number of celebrities as it did above. I am quite sure, that other publications from the same publishing-house could have used those.
