Volksphone and other Linkbaits

The OMD Dmexco is getting closer and seeing how the official party will hold with the best OMD-traditions (meaning a rather unfortunate ratio between the number of attendees and the amount of fundamental insight into the Internet), Randolf decided to also organize the TRG OMClub in Cologne. Just like last year, there will be a SEO-contest sponsored by the 3GStore for this occasion: The person that holds the top Google result for “Volksphone” on the evening of the party will get it. Additionally, so that the losers are not too broken up about it, everyone who tried their luck will get an IPhone-accessory for their imaginary cellphone.

I am always quite interested in such competitions, seeing how the SERPs are being reshuffled a lot within the first few days, which can then give us a good idea who Google sorts out results for which there are rather few links as primary rankingfactor. Because of this, I have set up a Volksphone-Monitoring, which will record the results once an hour and display them so that they can be evaluated. If this site will win against expectations, then I will wire the counter-value of this relic to our Kiva-Account.

Seodeluxe has also kept up his game: while he kept up the suspense for his “linkbait of the year” through Twitter and its own stop-gap-website, he finally let the cat out of the bag: OMG - Online Marketing Generals is a trading-card-game with figures from SEO, SEM and the Affiliate-branch. For this, Marcell designed a total of 300 cards, which means he put a lot of effort into this. I am looking forward to getting my hands on my order.

Last but not least: Martin Mißfeldt drew a selection of SEO-figures in the Simpson-Comic-Style. He did a very good job on this and it shows how linksbaits can work.
