Universal Search evaluation

Johannes Beus
Earlier this year, I put together a series of blogposts (part 1, 2, 3, 4), analyzing the situation of the vertical search within the Google-SERPs and Universal Search has been a reoccurring theme here in the blog. After that series ran, I had many people telling me through blog-comments or e-mails that an evaluation of their own as well as competitor-domains would be quite interesting.

ebay.deSeeing how such a monitoring could be well integrated into the SISTRIX Toolbox, from today on, you will be able to watch Googles Universal-Search-Integration besides all the other data for the organic index, Adwords and backlinks. For this, we record all the important vertical searches: shopping, news, blogs, imagesearch, maps (local results), videos and books. When we look at the domain- as well as the keyword-level, we can actually see how Google is experimenting in these areas. The diagram to the right shows the number of keywords for ebay.de that show up in the shopping-results – either going extremely strong or not to be found at all. Through this, we are also able to better understand exactly when Google pushed the imagesearch into the SERPs , as well as its increased visibility within the last few weeks (example:spiegel.de)

I hope that everyone has noticed that I am trying my best to keep this blog free of the usual marketing- and sales-pitches – so why did I do this posting? I decided to give out the Universal Search evaluation for free until 10.21.2009 (that will be the Toolboxes first birthday). Just sign up for a free account ( with no commitments and no promotional offers) and you are ready to go. As always, I am grateful for feedback on how to improve this feature, as well as which other data could be useful to be evaluated.
