How Nofollow-links are treated by searchengines

Johannes Beus
Since it is still unclear how the large searchengines are treating the Nofollow-attribute, which is supposed to reduce linkspam, Loren Baker from SearchEngineJournal asked Google, Yahoo and Ask.com:

Google – the Googlebot will not follow links that have the Nofollow-attribute. As a result, sites that are only reachable through that link will not show up in the Googleindex.

Yahoo – The Yahoocrawler Slurp will follow the links but no ranking criteria will be inherited through that link. It is possible that sites that are only reachable through a Nofollow-link will show up in the Yahooindex.

Ask.com does not support the Nofollow-attribute and will treat any such link like a regular one.
