Microsoft purchases Yahoo

Microsoft announced that they want to take over the ailing Internet-dinosaur Yahoo who has been in the media recently thanks to massive job-cuts in the past few days. Initial media reports put the price for Yahoo at around 44,6 Billion US-dollars. This corresponds to 31 dollar per share – a 62 percent increase to where the yahoo-stock closed on Thursday.

Following the ComScore-numbers for December 2007, Microsoft would gain a marketshare of 32 percent of the US-American Internet-search market after the takeover. This, sadly, looks quite different in Germany where Google is still dominating the market with a 90 percent share. After Microsoft bought the searchtechnology-specialist Fast in the beginning of the year, it seems their shopping spree is continuing. Maybe this way they will finally be able to offer a competitive search engine in the foreseeable future ...
