In classic Google Search, search volumes show what people are asking, and content strategy is built on that basis. This has worked for over 20 years. In AI Search, users no longer enter standardised keywords — they enter individual prompts. Instead of “balcony power station”, a user asks ChatGPT: “Create a checklist for buying a balcony power station”. Another wants to know from AI Mode which inverter is the most efficient. A third types “balcony power station 800W storage” into AI Overviews.
The same information need, completely different phrasing. And most of these prompts appear only once. Analysing individual prompts and building content strategies on them is not practicable.
From Millions of Prompts to Analysable Topics
The solution lies one level of abstraction higher. Prompt Research clusters similar prompts into topics. A topic groups together all prompts that deal with a subject and a goal — regardless of how they are phrased, regardless of which platform.
For “Balkonkraftwerk” (balcony solar system), Prompt Research finds 117 topics: from solar panels and installation through inverters and storage to cost-effectiveness and registration with the Core Energy Market Data Register. The entire journey from initial research to ongoing operation — fully analysable.

The data basis: over 62 million real user questions from Google Search and further sources, bundled into over 1.4 million topics. Each topic includes an estimated search volume for AI Search, intent classification, customer journey stage, and a dialogue length that indicates how complex the subject is in conversation with an AI.
The Content Brief Behind the Numbers
Search volume and intent are metrics one would expect. What Prompt Research delivers beyond that is a complete content brief per topic.

For “Balcony Power Station Components: Inverters, Solar Storage & Solar Panels” (18,300 search volume, Commercial Intent), it looks like this:
Buyer Persona: An environmentally conscious tenant or homeowner looking for a cost-efficient and technically durable solar solution for personal use.
Emotional Driver: The desire for self-sufficiency and cost savings amid rising electricity prices, coupled with uncertainty about technical reliability.
Unasked Questions: Questions the user has not asked but should know about. For example: “Is my electricity meter suitable for feed-in?” or “Which substructure is safe for my balcony?” Content that answers these questions before the user asks them demonstrates expertise. In AI responses, precisely this depth is rewarded.
User Prompts by Platform: The tool shows how users search for this topic on each platform. On AI Mode: “Which inverter for balcony power station is the most efficient”. On ChatGPT: “Create a checklist for buying a balcony power station”. The differences are relevant because content must be optimised differently depending on the platform.
Search Volume for AI Search: An Approximation
One of the most difficult questions in AI Search is: how large is the demand? No AI provider publishes demand data at topic level. Prompt Research delivers an estimated search volume based on real usage data from AI platforms, broken down to individual topics via real Google traffic.
